Lafarge got in touch with us because cumbersome legacy systems were having a negative impact on their costs and customer service.
They were struggling to procure the right amount of transport to fulfill customer demands and expectations at a cost-effective price point. Their costs were high, customer service was suffering, the pressure was building on the order office, and unnecessary delays and backlogs meant that staff was having to work overtime. Something had to change.
How we helped
We helped Lafarge to define their best practices and business rules. And all interdependencies with other systems and processes were identified and documented. Then we developed a bespoke ordering system, which was fully integrated with an ‘off-the-shelf’ packaged optimisation solution. This ordering system was designed to manage and allocate transport based on daily customer orders.
Lafarge has saved approximately £4m per year as a consequence of the bespoke ordering system we implemented.
Their haulage utilisation has also increased from 50% to 58%, while there’s now a more proactive planning and management of resources and fairer allocation of work to hauliers.
